چکیده

Abstract Transverse aeolian ridges – enigmatic Martian features without a proven terrestrial analog are increasingly important to our understanding of surface processes. However, it is not well understood how the relationships between different evolve. Here we present hypothesis for development complex hexagonal networks from simple linear forms by analyzing HiRISE images Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. We identify variable morphologies which show presence secondary ridges, feathered transverse and both rectangular networks. propose that formation reactivation primary ridge crests produces sinuous then progress cells towards eventual cells. This morphological progression may be explained acting as roughness elements due their increased spatial density would drive transition two-dimensional bedforms under three-dimensional flow conditions, conditions.

The distribution of Transverse Aeolian Ridges on Mars

Introduction: Mars is host to a wide range of aeolian forms such as dunes, ripples, dust devils, dust storms, yardangs, and ventifacts. Large dune fields characterized by low albedos and large duneform sizes have been observed and occur mainly around the north polar cap and in the southern mid-latitudes. However, another morphologically and dimensionally distinct population of aeolian bedforms ...

The Variability of Transverse Aeolian Ridges in Troughs on Mars

Introduction: A precursory glance at MGS images of the surface of Mars show an abundance of aeolian transverse ridges [1]. These ridges are located in a variety of geological terrains. Zimbelman and Wi lson [2] have separated the small-scale aeolian features of Syrtis Major into six categories: ripples associated with obstacles, ripple bands, ripple fields, ripple patches, isolated ripple patch...

Latitude-dependent nature and physical characteristics of transverse aeolian ridges on Mars

[1] Narrow-angle images from the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) have revealed the common occurrence of small-scale (<100 m wavelength) bright transverse aeolian ridges (TARs) on the surface of Mars. MOC images were used to assess the broad distribution of TARs from 90 N to 90 S between 180 E and 240 E to investigate their relationship to latitude, elevation, thermal inertia, geologic units, local sl...
